Granola
Homemade granola is easy to make, better for you and will save you some money. This recipe is very flexible and the amounts can vary according to your tastes and needs.
Ingredients:
- Rolled oats
- Wheat germ
- Shredded coconut
- Nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans)
- Seeds (sunflower, sesame, millet, pumpkin)
- Dried fruits (craisins, dried berries, dried bananas, raisins, mangoes)
- Oil (olive or coconut)
- Honey/ maple syrup
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Farenheit.
- Mix all ingredients except dried fruits, oil and honey/syrup.
- Fold honey or maple syrup into the dry ingredients. I like to add about one cup per six to eight cups of dry ingredients.
- Toss in enough oil to lightly coat everything. You can add more or less depending on how browned you like your granola versus how little fat you would like in it.
- Spread the granola on a cookie sheet and bake until browned. Add the dried fruit after the granola is baked.
When in the field, you can eat the granola as a trail snack, add it to oatmeal, make granola with stewed fruit, or have it with milk (powdered).
